Research Platform

TicTech

A human subjects research platform that measures behavior where it happens — combining scheduled and push ecological momentary assessment, high-fidelity video and audio capture, and interventions that arrive at the moment they are needed.

In development

What it does

Three instruments, one study platform.

Ecological momentary assessment
Surveys triggered by time or by participant behavior, rendered dynamically from study-defined instruments, and synced offline so data is not lost when connectivity is.
High-fidelity media capture
Lossless audio and high-resolution video recorded on the participant's own device, with on-device framing detection to guide head and neck positioning before recording begins.
Adaptive interventions
Just-in-time adaptive interventions — guided breathing, video modules, and structured content — delivered in real time when an assessment signals craving or negative affect.
Design

Built for the compliance reality of clinical research.

TicTech is research infrastructure, not a consumer app. Participant media is held in object storage behind an abstraction seam, so the platform moves between an institutional data center and a commercial cloud by configuration rather than by rewrite. Staff sign in through federated identity with enforced multi-factor authentication; participants enroll with device-bound tokens. Session tokens carry an identifier and a role — never protected health information. Access is scoped per study, so investigators and coordinators see only the participants in the projects they belong to.

Status
Backend service and participant mobile application built; staff console in progress.
Technology
FastAPI and PostgreSQL backend; React Native (Expo) participant application; object storage for media.
Application areas
Movement disorders, substance use, and other conditions where symptom measurement benefits from repeated, in-context observation.
Collaboration

Measuring something hard to measure?

TicTech was built for studies where a clinic visit every few weeks is not enough resolution. If that sounds like your protocol, we should talk.
